Liu and colleagues exposed Sprague-Dawley rats to cadmium chloride for 30 days and compared intestinal and blood microbiota with the serum metabolome. The WikiBiome corpus note states that cadmium lowered intestinal ZO-1, raised TNF-alpha and IL-6 in intestine and blood, and was accompanied by Muribaculaceae in blood.
Key numbers
The note states that Muribaculaceae was not detected in blood from the unexposed group and increased in the cadmium group. Acinetobacteriota decreased in the gut and increased in blood. Actinobacteriota increased in the blood microbiome (p < 0.05). The metabolome screen found 233 differential metabolites, of which 22 met the note’s biomarker screen (VIP > 1.0, p < 0.05). Upregulated metabolites named in the note include indoxyl sulfate, phenol sulfate, and p-cresol sulfate. The note does not give the number of rats or the cadmium dose.
Evidence fitness
The record supports a 30-day rat finding about cadmium chloride, intestinal barrier markers, and gut and blood microbiota. It does not support a concentration of cadmium in any food, and it does not state a limit.
Limitations
This page records the WikiBiome corpus note. It is not a new extraction from a local copy of the paper. Sample size and dose are not in that note.
