Research of Physical and Chemical Properties and Toxic Elements in Locally Bred Oats for the Production of Cereal Drinks

Overview

Myrzhkbayeva and colleagues assessed grain quality and safety of three locally bred oat varieties intended for oat drink production in Kazakhstan. Toxic elements were measured by atomic absorption per GOST 30178-96. Cadmium and lead were very low and arsenic was not found in any variety.

Key numbers

  • Cadmium 0.0002 ± 0.0001 mg/kg (Duman), not found (Arman), 0.0003 ± 0.0001 mg/kg (Bityk) (Table 3, p. 46).
  • Lead 0.008 ± 0.0001 mg/kg (Duman), not found (Arman), 0.007 ± 0.0001 mg/kg (Bityk) (Table 3, p. 46).
  • Arsenic not found in all three varieties; the Customs Union limits are cadmium 0.1, lead 0.5 and arsenic 0.2 mg/kg (Table 3, p. 46).

Methods (brief)

Atomic absorption with a KVANT-Z.ETA spectrometer per GOST 30178-96. The number of samples per variety, detection limits, basis and QA are not reported. The results column carries no separate unit; mg/kg is taken from the table header.

Evidence Fitness

Direct oat grain data, but three values only, with no sample counts, detection limits or reference materials. The paper is in Kazakh with English and Russian abstracts. Raw oat grain is a proxy for the cereal and infant-oat-cereal pages, which are not linked.
