Ahmad and colleagues measured metals in green coconut water and in surface seawater. Only Table 2, green coconut water, is used. The table header is mg/L. The methods also say results are expressed as ppm. Both wordings are printed. Chromium is not speciated. Recovery was 88% to 99%.
Key numbers
Table 2 printed Average row, mg/L: lead 0.008 ± 0.002, chromium 0.007 ± 0.005, nickel 0.003 ± 0.0005, cadmium 0.0015 ± 0.0002. District means are also printed and are not pooled again here. The authors’ safe-limit row is a comparator, not a measurement.
Methods (brief)
Coconut water was analyzed by atomic absorption methods described in the paper. Six districts. Seawater is a separate table.
Evidence fitness
The Average row supports a green coconut water note. It does not support seawater as coconut water.
Limitations
ppm and mg/L are both printed for the same table. Chromium is not hexavalent. Arsenic, mercury, aluminum, and tin are not in Table 2.
