Risk assessment of rare earth elements, antimony, barium, boron, lithium, tellurium, thallium and vanadium in teas

An EFSA Journal EU-FORA report. It restates the WHO tolerable daily intake and is not the 2004 food-contact opinion.

Key numbers

The highest antimony intake evaluated from tea was 0.03 percent of the TDI of 6 µg/kg body weight (PDF p.6 and p.11). The PDF renders the microgram glyph poorly. No tea concentration in micrograms per kilogram is printed in the main text opened here.

Methods (brief)

Dietary exposure report for tea.

Evidence fitness

Supports the 0.03 percent statement. Does not support an infant-formula concentration or a food-contact specific migration limit.

Limitations

Not an infant study.
