영유아·어린이용 자외선 차단제 시험·평가 결과 (Test and evaluation results for infant and child sunscreens, attachments 1 and 2)

A Korean consumer federation tested 17 infant and child sunscreens for safety and labelling and posted the results on the government Consumer24 portal.

A Korean consumer federation tested 17 infant and child sunscreens for safety and labelling and posted the results on the government Consumer24 portal. Lead, cadmium, arsenic, antimony, mercury and nickel were tested against the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety cosmetic safety standard (MFDS notice 2020-12). All 17 products were reported as compliant or not detected. No concentrations are given.

Key numbers

Attachment 1 (PDF p. 4) states that pH and heavy metals met the standard for every product. Attachment 2 (PDF p. 1), the results table, marks the “pH 및 중금속” column ”○” for all 17 products, where ”○” means compliant with the relevant standard or not detected. The same table gives SPF 25 to SPF 50+ and PA grades. Products were bought online in October 2020.

There are no numeric metal results. The limit values in MFDS notice 2020-12 are not restated in either attachment and that notice is not in this collection.

Methods (brief)

Products were chosen by an expert committee and a consumer survey. Heavy metals, 1,4-dioxane, methanol, formaldehyde, phthalates, microbes, preservatives, UV filters, allergens, fill volume and labelling were assessed. The attachments cite the MFDS standard and NIFDS guidelines but do not describe the metal method, digestion or detection limits.

Evidence fitness

The source supports only a pass or not-detected outcome for six metals in 17 child sunscreens on the Korean market in 2020. It cannot supply a concentration, a range or a comparison between mineral and chemical products. Only one product name identifies itself as a mineral sunscreen (무기자차), so the set is mixed.

Limitations

No numbers, no method, and no limit values. Product identities are in the source table and are not repeated here. A related Korean journal survey of children’s and inorganic sunscreens (J Soc Cosmet Sci Korea 47(4):289-296) was not obtained.
