Indonesia BPOM Regulation No. 16 of 2024 sets contaminant limits in cosmetic products. The rule covers microbial contaminants, heavy-metal contaminants, and chemical contaminants; the routeable heavy-metal table lists mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium limits in mg/kg or mg/L with bpj/ppm equivalents.
Article 9 revokes BPOM Regulation No. 12 of 2019 when Regulation No. 16 of 2024 comes into force. Article 10 states that the 2024 regulation comes into force 12 months after promulgation; the local text records promulgation/signing in Jakarta on 3 September 2024. Arsenic is recorded as total arsenic (tAs) because the rule says arsenic without specifying inorganic arsenic, and mercury is recorded as total mercury (tHg) because the rule says mercury without specifying methylmercury.
