Gut Microbiota and Its Metabolite Taurine-β-Muricholic Acid Contribute to Antimony- and/or Copper-Induced Liver Inflammation

Male C57BL/6 mice, about 20 g and six weeks old, n = 7 per group, were gavaged every two days for six weeks.

Male C57BL/6 mice, about 20 g and six weeks old, n = 7 per group, were gavaged every two days for six weeks. Antimony was 10 mg/kg as potassium antimony tartrate.

Key numbers

Alpha-diversity (ACE and richness) is described as elevated in the antimony group in the results, and paired alpha-diversity comparisons are described as not significant in the discussion. Beta-diversity p = 0.001 (PDF p.5-6). Hepatic taurine-beta-muricholic acid was elevated 1.5-fold in the antimony group. Serum total bile acids were elevated 1.6-fold in the antimony group.

Methods (brief)

Mouse gavage. Not an infant and not a wipe.

Evidence fitness

Supports the dose, the sample size, and the internal alpha-diversity inconsistency. Does not support a consumer exposure.

Limitations

The 10 mg/kg dose is far above a dietary or wipe dose.
