Washington’s 2008 Children’s Safe Product Act restricts lead and cadmium in children’s products and product components sold or distributed in Washington State. Section 3 sets a 0.009 percent by weight lead limit and a 0.004 percent by weight cadmium limit beginning July 1, 2009. The law covers children’s products including toys, children’s cosmetics, children’s jewelry, sucking or teething products, sleep, feeding, clothing-related products, and child car seats, subject to listed exclusions. The statute also authorizes possible rulemaking for a lower lead limit, but that discretionary future rule is not loaded as a structured row from this document.
