SIDS Initial Assessment Profile: Diantimony trioxide

The SIAM 27 profile for diantimony trioxide, CAS 1309-64-4, states oral and dermal absorption percentages and acute toxicity figures.

The SIAM 27 profile for diantimony trioxide, CAS 1309-64-4, states oral and dermal absorption percentages and acute toxicity figures. The dermal percentage is a summary of an unpublished in vitro skin study. That primary report was not opened.

Key numbers

PDF p.1: oral absorption 0.3 percent at 100 mg/kg body weight and 0.05 percent at 1,000 mg/kg body weight. The profile states that 1 percent is assumed at relevant human exposure levels. Dermal absorption is called negligible on the basis of an in vitro human-skin study that showed 0.26 percent absorption. PDF p.2: 4-hour nose-only LC50 greater than 5.20 mg/L; oral LD50 in excess of 20,000 mg/kg body weight; dermal LD50 higher than 8,300 mg/kg body weight.

Methods (brief)

SIDS initial assessment profile. Not a consumer-product survey. The Roper and Stupart report summarized here was not in the corpus.

Evidence fitness

Supports the percentages and acute figures as the profile prints them. Does not support using 0.26 percent as absorption of antimony from a wipe, a textile, or infant skin.

Limitations

The profile prints one dermal percentage. OEHHA 2016, opened separately, also prints 0.14 percent at a higher surface load. Those are summaries of the same unpublished study, not a new measurement.
