Technical Report 590 is the two-year inhalation bioassay of antimony trioxide in Wistar Han rats and B6C3F1/N mice. The calls are some evidence in rats and clear evidence in mice.
Key numbers
Conclusions (PDF p.20-21): some evidence of carcinogenic activity in male rats (combined alveolar/bronchiolar adenoma or carcinoma, and benign pheochromocytoma) and some evidence in female rats (alveolar/bronchiolar adenoma, and benign or malignant pheochromocytoma). Clear evidence in male mice (alveolar/bronchiolar carcinoma) and clear evidence in female mice (alveolar/bronchiolar adenoma and carcinoma, and malignant lymphoma). Rat alveolar/bronchiolar tumours carried Egfr mutations in 13 of 26 and a Kras mutation in 1 of 26.
Methods (brief)
Whole-body or nose-only inhalation as described in the report. This page uses the conclusion pages, not a re-analysis of the incidence tables.
Evidence fitness
Supports the level-of-evidence calls and the mutation counts as inhalation findings. Does not support an oral or dermal dose.
Limitations
Rodent inhalation. Not a consumer-product study.
