Development and Validation of an ICP-AES Method for the Determination of Toxic and Nutrient Metals in Candies

The paper measured metals in candies from the Greek market. Table 7 is fresh weight. The table prints mg kg−1. This note writes mg/kg for those numerals. Jellies are excluded. Cadmium, nickel, and lead were not detected. Their limits of detection are 0.51, 0.46, and 2.25 mg/kg, but the not-detected sentence includes jellies, so those limits are not a hard-candy-only result. A chromium range of 0.15 to 0.78 mg/kg includes jellies and is not assigned to hard candy. Recoveries were 80% to 119%. Chromium is not hexavalent.

Key numbers

Table 7 chromium, mg/kg fresh weight: CS-1 0.29 ± 0.02, CS-2 0.31 ± 0.03, CS-3 0.36 ± 0.01, CS-4 0.15 ± 0.01, CS-5 0.33 ± 0.03, CS-6 0.32 ± 0.02, LS-1 0.29 ± 0.01, LS-2 0.19 ± 0.07.

Methods (brief)

Open-vessel nitric acid digestion and ICP-AES. Chromium wavelength 357.869 nm. LOD for chromium 0.05 mg/kg.

Evidence fitness

These eight cells support a hard-candy and lollipop chromium note. They do not support a jelly-inclusive range as hard candy, and they do not turn non-detects into zeros.

Limitations

Cadmium, nickel, and lead have no hard-candy concentration. Chromium is total chromium.
