Scope and evidence fitness
The official advice supports consumer preparation and food-choice context. It summarizes research and gives dietary advice; it is not a new experimental dataset, a complete heavy-metal mitigation review or a grain-specific compliance instrument. Accessed 18 October 2026; the page’s publication date is not assigned here.
Selected rice findings
In “Get strategies for rice and infant rice cereal”, FDA describes cooking in 6–10 parts water per part rice and draining excess water. The summarized research reports 40–60% less inorganic arsenic, depending on rice type. For enriched polished and parboiled rice, it also reports 50–70% loss of added folate, iron, niacin and thiamine. These ranges are research summaries, not a guaranteed household effect or a confidence interval.
The same section says rinsing has a minimal effect on grain arsenic while removing added nutrients. “Eat a varied and nutritious diet” and the rice section support age-appropriate grain variety. Rice need not be excluded from a balanced diet. This advice does not establish cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) or mercury (Hg) removal, prescribe serving frequencies, or authorize changes to infant-formula preparation.
