This medRxiv file is a preprint and is not peer reviewed. Figure 2 bar values are not in the text layer and are not guessed. The abstract prints 14 corn brands and the methods print 12 corn brands. Both are printed. NIST SRM 1515 was used, but the measured reference value is not printed. Other elements are in supplements that are not in this PDF.
Key numbers
Four hard-corn tortilla brands had aluminum from 0.15 to 0.31 mg per 30 gram serving. Brand names in that sentence are omitted. A separate sentence says wheat tortillas contain more aluminum than corn tortillas (0.46 ± 0.18 and 0.14 ± 0.11, respectively). The parenthesis does not reprint a unit. Figure 2 is captioned as milligrams of aluminum per 30 g serving. The 0.14 ± 0.11 figure is not given a unit beyond that caption, and it is not split into soft and hard corn.
Methods (brief)
Ready-to-eat tortillas. A subsample was dried to constant mass before digestion. The reported hard-corn figure is per 30 gram serving, not a dry-mass concentration.
Evidence fitness
The hard-corn sentence supports an aluminum note for hard corn tortillas, labeled as a preprint. Figure 2 is not used as a set of bar readings.
Limitations
Not peer reviewed. Corn brand counts disagree. The paired 0.14 ± 0.11 figure has no unit inside the parenthesis.
