Distribution Characteristics and Pollution Assessment of Lead and Cadmium Content in Selected Dairy Farms in Jiangsu, China

Overview

Yang and colleagues mapped lead and cadmium in soil around three dairy farms in Jiangsu and measured both metals in cow feces as a sign of exposure. Lead pollution was low and cadmium pollution moderate in several areas, with soil pH a key factor. No milk was analysed.

Key numbers

  • No food concentrations. Soil results are in Tables 1 to 3 and fecal results in the Results text; neither is a food measurement.

Methods (brief)

Soil was air-dried, sieved and digested with aqua regia; feces were pooled from six cows per farm. Pollution indices were compared with Jiangsu provincial soil background values.

Evidence Fitness

Context only for dairy farm exposure pathways. It does not measure milk, cream or any dairy product, so it is not evidence for half-and-half or any other dairy page. Milk values cited in the introduction come from other studies.
