Overview
This study examined whether physiological variables in urban trees can serve as proxy indicators for heavy metal and PGE pollution in Logrono, La Rioja, Spain. Pd and Pt were measured in leaves of 50 urban trees alongside conventional heavy metals. Physiological indices were correlated with element concentrations to assess their utility as biomonitoring tools.
Key numbers
- 50 trees studied in Logrono, La Rioja, Spain
- Pd and Pt measured in tree leaves by ICP-MS
- Physiological index values used as proxies for PGE accumulation
- Supplementary data contains GPS coordinates and element concentrations per individual tree
- Specific numeric concentration values in supplementary data tables
Methods (brief)
Leaf sampling from 50 urban trees across Logrono. ICP-MS measurement of Pd, Pt, and multiple heavy metals. Physiological variables (chlorophyll indices, water content, fluorescence) measured in parallel. Statistical correlation between physiological variables and elemental concentrations. GPS coordinates recorded per tree.
Implications
This page makes the source discoverable for palladium evidence routing. Provides urban tree leaf Pd and Pt concentrations from a Spanish city context, relevant for understanding traffic-related PGE deposition in urban vegetation that may enter food chains via leaf litter and soil contamination.
