Dietary Exposure Assessment of Potentially Toxic Elements in Armenian Honey

Overview

The authors report copper, molybdenum, lead and arsenic in 60 multifloral honey samples from the Armenian state residue monitoring program, measured by AAS in an accredited laboratory, and estimate intake and margins of exposure for adults. Lead was found in most samples at low levels; arsenic in only one.

Key numbers

  • Lead detected in 86.7% of samples, 0.021 to 0.046 mg/kg, mean 0.03 mg/kg (Results, p. 156).
  • Arsenic found in one sample at 0.025 mg/kg (Results, p. 156).
  • Copper 0.059 to 0.312 mg/kg, mean 0.138 mg/kg; molybdenum not detected (< 0.008 mg/kg).

Methods (brief)

Atomic absorption spectrometry (Thermo Fisher iCE-3500) at an ISO 17025 laboratory; digestion, detection limits other than molybdenum, and QA details are not given. Cadmium was not measured.

Evidence Fitness

Official monitoring samples give a reasonable national picture, but the short paper reports results only in text, without per-sample data, dates or LODs for lead and arsenic. Honey is a sweet-syrup proxy for pancake-syrup; the paper measures no pancake syrup, so that page is not linked.
