Overview
This is the Research Square preprint of the second part of a two-part study. It re-analyses the 40 Soroti beef samples already reported by Kasozi et al. 2021 in Frontiers in Nutrition, using principal component and cluster analysis and lifetime cancer risk estimates. Because the concentrations are the same dataset, this record is context only and its values are not extracted again.
Key numbers
- Table 1 lists the same per-sample copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, cobalt, iron, nickel and chromium values (ppm, wet weight) as the earlier paper; copper spans 0.7 to 3.6 ppm in both.
- One sample (ID 12) prints iron at 1511 ppm and is singled out by the cluster analysis (Table 1, p. 6).
Methods (brief)
Wet digestion with nitric and perchloric acid and flame AAS, calibrated at 0 to 5 ppm, with blanks and laboratory control samples. Results are on a wet-weight basis. No detection limits or reference materials are reported.
Evidence Fitness
The filed file is the 2021 preprint, not the 2023 Toxicology Reports version named in the manifest. Its data duplicate kasozi2021-uganda-beef-metals, so the disposition is context to avoid double counting. For vegetable-beef-soup it would in any case be a proxy (raw beef, not soup).
