Survey of chemical substances in consumer products No. 60, chapter 3, wooden toys

Fifteen surface-treated wooden toys were extracted under EN 71-3. Antimony was below the detection level in every sample.

Fifteen surface-treated wooden toys were extracted under EN 71-3. Antimony was below the detection level in every sample.

Key numbers

Fifteen products. Inorganic migration followed EN 71-3: 0.5 g sample, 25 g of 0.07 M hydrochloric acid, 1 hour shaking and 1 hour standing at 37 °C, then ICP-AES (PDF p.1). Table 3 prints the antimony detection level as 6 mg/kg, and every antimony cell is a dash, defined as below the detection level. The table title says saliva extracts. The method text says the simulant is 0.07 M hydrochloric acid, described once in the file as hydrochlorous acid.

Methods (brief)

EN 71-3 migration, not a total-content digestion.

Evidence fitness

Supports a non-detect at 6 mg/kg in these 15 extracts. Does not support a measured concentration above that level.

Limitations

Wooden toys only. Not plastic toys and not wipes.
