Overview
Argoubi and colleagues developed an electrochemical aptasensor for ochratoxin A (OTA) using gold nanoparticles modified with a ferrocene-linked anti-OTA aptamer on disposable electrodes. Gold nanoparticles provide the electrode modification surface; they are not the analyte. OTA is a nephrotoxic mycotoxin regulated in the EU at 10 µg/kg in roasted coffee and 2 µg/L in wine. The aptasensor LOD of 0.011 ng/mL is well below these limits, demonstrating applicability for trace-level verification monitoring.
Key numbers
LOD: 11 pg/mL (0.011 ng/mL). Linear range: 0.5 to 70 ng/mL. Validated in spiked roasted coffee bean extracts and French wine. The LOD is approximately 180-fold more sensitive than prior aptasensor designs without signal amplification (Table S1).
Implications for the wiki
This paper contributes to Gold as documentation of AuNP-based sensing platforms applied to mycotoxin food safety. No food occurrence data for gold or any heavy metal are provided.
