Lanthanum nanorods were coated with carbon to remove phosphate and organic matter from water together. The carbon coating reduced lanthanum leakage into water compared with the uncoated material, and adsorption reached equilibrium within ten minutes.
Key numbers
- Adsorption equilibrium within 10 minutes; effective over pH 2 to 12 (abstract).
- Daily lanthanum leakage was much lower from the carbon-coated material than from the uncoated lanthanum material; values shown in Figure 2a only (p. 4).
Methods (brief)
Hydrothermal carbon coating and carbonization of a lanthanum metal-organic framework; leakage and adsorption tests.
Evidence fitness
Off-topic for dietary exposure: water treatment materials research that does not support dietary exposure or toxicity claims.
Limitations
Laboratory material or biomedical study; no environmental, food or human exposure measurements.
