Overview
Yu and colleagues developed concave gold nanocubes (CGNs) as colorimetric probes for the detection of cobalt ions through a Fenton-like etching reaction. Gold nanocubes are etched by Co2+-catalyzed H2O2 decomposition, producing a measurable SPR band shift. Gold is the analytical reagent; cobalt is the target analyte. Validated matrices are river and pond water; no food matrices were tested.
Key numbers
LOD: 0.3 nM Co2+. Linear range: 0.5 to 400 nM. SCN- optimal concentration: 2.0 mM. Validated in spiked river and pond water.
Implications for the wiki
This paper contributes to Gold as documentation of AuNP-based sensing platforms for heavy metal ion detection in water. It also provides context for Cobalt as a water quality analyte. No food occurrence data for gold or cobalt are provided.
