Fluorescent lamp tungsten filament thermionic emission gun as a novel humidity optical sensor

The authors built an optical relative humidity sensor from the thermionic emission of a fluorescent lamp tungsten filament, reading the emitted light with a camera. Sensing relies on reaction of water with the filament to form hydrated tungsten oxide. The paper concerns instrumentation, not tungsten exposure.

Key numbers

This paper reports no numerical findings relevant to tungsten exposure.

Methods (brief)

The filament emission was imaged under controlled humidity, and the surface chemistry was examined by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Evidence fitness

Off-topic for dietary exposure: a sensor paper that does not support dietary exposure or toxicity claims for tungsten.

Limitations

Sensor performance figures concern humidity, not tungsten.
