Overview
Saeid and colleagues measured cadmium and iron by flame and graphite-furnace AAS in 12 potato chip products bought in western Libya, with three replicates each. Results are printed in mg/l of the digest solution, not mg/kg of chips. One printed cadmium average does not match its own replicates and was excluded.
Key numbers
- Cadmium replicate values 0.2550 to 0.9010 mg/l of digest across 12 products (Table 1).
- Cadmium averages 0.2950 to 0.8723 mg/l, excluding the misprinted 1.8300 average for the sour cream product (Table 1).
- Iron averages 17.5767 to 32.1390 mg/l (Table 2).
Methods (brief)
Chips were dried at 70 °C, 0.5 g was microwave-digested with nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide, and the digest was read by AAS against standards. The final volume is stated inconsistently (20 mL and 50 mL). No detection limits, blanks or reference materials are reported.
Evidence Fitness
Twelve products, triplicate readings, digest-solution units and no QA. Peer review is unverified (the journal describes itself as peer reviewed). The printed Zenodo DOI is not a Crossref DOI, so the record carries the Zenodo URL only. For cream-of-potato-soup this is a proxy: it measures fried potato chips, not soup.
