Overview
Plaisen and colleagues developed a citrate-capped gold nanoparticle (AuNP) anti-aggregation colorimetric assay for the detection of bromide in rice. Bromide prevents Cr3+-induced AuNP aggregation, maintaining the red color and enabling spectrophotometric quantification. Gold is the analytical reagent; bromide is the target analyte. The method was validated in spiked white, brown, and black rice samples.
Key numbers
LOD: 0.012 mg/kg. LOQ: 0.04 mg/kg. Calibration range: 0.31 to 3.75 mM Br-. Recoveries: 79.9 to 92.2%. RSD: less than 2%.
Implications for the wiki
This paper contributes to Gold as documentation of AuNP-based sensing platforms for anion detection in rice food matrices. No food occurrence data for gold or any heavy metal are provided.
