Effects of boron citrate supplementation on cardiometabolic factors, inflammatory biomarkers and anthropometric measures in obese patients: study protocol for a randomised, double-blind clinical trial

This is a protocol, not a results paper. It describes a planned 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 60 adults with obesity, comparing boron citrate capsules containing 10 mg of boron daily with maltodextrin placebo for effects on inflammatory markers, body measures and cardiometabolic factors.

Key numbers

  • Planned dose: boron citrate capsules containing 10 mg of boron once daily for 12 weeks (Methods, Study interventions).
  • No outcome data are reported.

Methods (brief)

Stratified block randomization by age and sex; primary outcomes are CRP, TNF-alpha, IL-6, IL-10 and anthropometric indices; diet assessed by 3-day food records. Registered as IRCT20220806055624N1.

Evidence fitness

Documents a planned supplementation dose and trial design. It does not support efficacy, safety or exposure claims.

Limitations

No results. The abstract states that no adverse effects of boron have been reported, which is a background claim, not a finding of the trial. Funded by the Endocrine Research Center of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences; no competing interests declared.
