Antioxidant and hypoglycemic potential of phytogenic cerium oxide nanoparticles

Cerium oxide nanoparticles were made using a mint leaf extract and tested in test-tube antioxidant and enzyme-inhibition assays related to blood sugar control. The particles, 46 to 56 nm across, showed dose-dependent activity at 500 and 1000 µg/mL.

Key numbers

  • Particle diameter 46 to 56 nm (abstract).
  • Effective in vitro concentrations 500 and 1000 µg/mL (abstract).

Methods (brief)

Green synthesis, characterization by UV-vis, SEM, EDX, FTIR, DLS and AFM, and in vitro antioxidant and enzyme assays.

Evidence fitness

Off-topic for dietary exposure: it concerns possible medical uses of synthesized particles and does not support dietary exposure or toxicity claims.

Limitations

Laboratory material or biomedical study; no environmental, food or human exposure measurements.
