Labelling Assessment of Greek “Quality Label” Prepacked Cheeses as the Basis for a Branded Food Composition Database

Overview

Katsouri and colleagues recorded the labels of 158 prepacked Greek PDO and PGI cheeses and checked them against EU labelling law, then used the nutrition data to start a branded food composition database. The study analysed no metals or other contaminants. The abstract uses “lead” only as a verb.

Key numbers

  • No metal results. Lowest mandatory-label compliance was for allergen declaration (65%) (Abstract).

Methods (brief)

Desk survey of label information (mandatory particulars, nutrition declaration, claims) with classification and coding for a database; no laboratory analysis.

Evidence Fitness

Out of scope for heavy-metal evidence (tier C). It was pulled for mozzarella and swiss-cheese because the abstract seemed to mention lead; the full text confirms no lead or other element was measured. It should not be cited for metal levels in any cheese.

  • None: this paper reports no metal measurements.
