Straight vs blended applications of IAA (Indole Acetic Acid) and Boron (B) for the improvement of crop productivity in maize (Zea mays L.)

This pot experiment tested foliar sprays of indole acetic acid and boron at 20 and 30 ppm, alone and blended, on two maize varieties. Blended sprays gave the largest gains in growth, pigments, antioxidant enzymes and yield traits. The paper does not report boron concentrations in grain or tissue.

Key numbers

  • This paper reports no numerical findings relevant to boron exposure. Boron was applied as foliar sprays at 20 and 30 ppm (Methods, treatments T3 to T5).

Methods (brief)

Six foliar treatments were applied 21 days after germination to two maize varieties in pots, with three replicates; growth, physiological and biochemical traits were measured at vegetative and maturity stages.

Evidence fitness

Supports only the agronomic observation that foliar boron, especially blended with indole acetic acid, improved maize growth in pots. It does not support dietary exposure or toxicity claims.

Limitations

Pot study; no boron analysis of plant tissue or grain. Funded by King Saud University; no competing interests declared.
