Scope

The 2015 amendment updates India’s Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011. It applies to the metal-contaminants table in regulation 2.1.1 and adds gelatin under the chromium row.

How tested

The amendment states the maximum level but does not provide a sampling or analytical-method section in this PDF.

Enforcement posture

The amendment was made by FSSAI under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 after publication of a draft and consideration of public comments. It came into force on publication in the Official Gazette.

History of changes

The draft amendment was published on 5 June 2015. The final amendment was notified in New Delhi on 4 November 2015, published in the Gazette of India dated 12 November 2015, and entered into force on the date of Gazette publication.

How it compares

The row is a narrow gelatin-specific chromium ceiling. Because the amendment states chromium without hexavalent speciation, comparisons should use total-chromium rows rather than Cr(VI)-specific drinking-water or product standards.
